Project Technology
The Exploring the Potteries website contains both static and dynamic content,
held on 2 servers. Our natural history content is hosted on Stoke-on-Trent City Council's web
server and is currently all static. The City Council is currently in the process
of purchasing a content management system and once this is in place our natural
history content will be migrated into it. We are currently working on
the GIS section of the natural history content, which will enable users to
search a range of locations and will provide dynamic distribution maps showing
the distribution of different species in Staffordshire. These maps will draw
information directly from the Recorder database which holds all our wildlife
sightings and as such the maps will always be up to date.
Our project home pages and local history content are currently hosted by
Staffordshire County Council within a bespoke content management system. Content
can be searched for using the GIS map interface or by exploring the themes. Our
local history online exhibitions, which are static web pages, are housed on
Stoke-on-Trent City Council's server.
Our web pages were designed by Sagittarius of Folkestone and conform to W3C
web accessibility initiative guidelines and NOF technical guidelines. Metadata
rich master copies of all the information featured on the website have been
archived to CD Rom and are housed in a fireproof store.
