Pot Washing
As tedious as it sounds, every single piece of pottery, glass, and bone that comes off site has to be washed and individually labelled before it can be used for study.

Finds Marking
All individual finds have to be marked so that they can be moved about and analysed without losing or muddling contexts.
Done in Indian ink, it should read the site name (abbreviated), the year of the excavation and the context in which it was found.

Finds sorting, Identifying and Illustrating
Finds may be sorted according to specific types or by context group for study. Identification of a find may be done by comparison to other collection pieces, illustrations or partial similarities
