This section, featuring fifteen common garden birds will hopefully be not only informative but also an enjoyable way of finding out about the birds in your garden. It is not meant to be an exhaustive list, more of an introduction to beginners; a starting point for anyone wishing to find out more about the creatures around them.
When watching birds or other wild creatures, it is not usually necessary to note down (mentally or otherwise) every detail of a bird you have just spotted for the first time. Too often the time is not available to note more than one or two details, but equally often this can be enough: several features of the goldfinch (above) are unique, a black, red and white head, or black wings with a yellow wing-bar would be enough to confirm that a goldfinch was the bird which just visited your garden.
