Zoology Collections
The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery holds around 100,000 animal specimens, the majority of which are species which are found in and around the Potteries. They cover most of the animal kingdom from tiny invertebrates to larger mammals. Highlights (depending on what type of animal you are interested in!) include 22,000 land and freshwater molluscs, 4000 diptera (flies), 18,000 lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) and 7000 bird eggs.

Botanical Collections
We look after around 15,000 plant and fungi specimens. These include about 6000 specimens from Eric Edees, the author of ‘Flora of Staffordshire’.

Geological Collections
The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery looks after around 12,000 rocks, minerals and fossils. These specimens have a particular focus on the local area. Highlights of the collection include around 900 mainly fish Carboniferous Coal Measure fossils amassed by John Ward. We also hold 1000 north Midlands minerals collected by W.A.S.Sarjeant.
