Badger excavating a wasp's nest in the Natural History Gallery

The Potteries Museum’s Natural History Gallery focuses on the habitats and wildlife found in and around the Potteries. The resource area has displays introducing the variety of life, geology and biodiversity and features and interactive touchscreen computer and is often used for teaching sessions with visiting schools.

The main gallery covers the different habitats, landscapes and wildlife found locally. Displays of limestone grassland, moorland, city and town, deciduous woodland, field and hedgerow, coniferous woodland, heathland and wetland introduce the flora, fauna and geology of each area. At the end of the gallery the temporary display case houses changing, seasonal exhibitions.

When visiting our gallery don’t miss the Secret Garden. It introduces the variety of plants and fungi that exist and provides a quiet haven in a busy city.
