One of the best ways that you can help to protect British birds is by reporting bird sightings to your local recording agencies. These agencies can then monitor rises and falls in bird populations and can help to protect important breeding and feeding habitats.

You can report sightings of all wildlife species to the Ecological Record Officer at the Staffordshire Ecological Record.

The West Midland Bird Club would be particularly interested to hear about any bird sightings in the West Midlands. They are the lead partner for a number of Staffordshire Biodiversity Action Plan (SBAP) species and are currently running recording schemes for skylark, lapwing, nightjar, snipe and woodlark.

The British Trust for Ornithology also run a 'Migration Watch' website (as part of their main website) through which you can report sightings of migrating birds and track their progress across the country. Visit their website for more information.
