Baddeley Edge Pool

This pool, which is just off Brindley Lane in Baddeley Edge, is
immediately at the base of a sandstone outcrop and is mainly of interest for its animal life. The only submerged plant is pondweed (Elodea sp.) and emergent vegetation is limited to a couple of patches of branched bur-reed (Sparganium erectum) and reedmace (Typha laifolia). Animal life is abundant with many molluscs (Sphaerium sp. and Planorbis sp.) in the pondweed beds. Pondskaters, whirligig beetles and backswimmers are also very common, with many blue damselflies and brown hawker dragonflies present. Common frogs and smooth newts are common, and many birds are attracted to the area including green woodpeckers. Unfortunately the site does suffer from a lot of rubbish dumping.
