Scientific name: Chorthippus brunneus.

Average body length: 22mm.

The colour of the common field grasshopper can vary greatly; grey, green, brown or even purple. The female is larger than the male, and both sexes give out the typical grasshopper chirp. Prefers dry grassy habitats, and can often be seen sunbathing in open areas.

Very common in Staffordshire.
