Scientific name: Araneus diadernatus.

Body length: 12mm.

A large spider distinguished by a white cross on the abdomen, colour can vary from grey-brown to a rich orange-brown. The female is noticeably larger than the male. Creates large webs in gaps in vegetation etc., and is often seen sitting in the very centre of the web, patiently waiting for prey to become caught.

Very common in Staffordshire.
