Scientific name: Lymnaea stagnalis.

Average shell length: 40mm.

The UK's largest aquatic snail, the great pond snail can be found in many still or slow moving water features. In older specimens the outer layer of the shell often becomes flaky. Commonly seen floating
upside down at the water surface.

Very common in Staffordshire.
